International Training Week
19 - 23 November 2012
Are you interested in new perspectives on your daily work, your projects, your research or your teaching? Then join us for our International Training Week (ITW) and explore new approaches to your workday routine. Our aim is the exchange of experiences, the mutual discovery of new topics and the development of innovative ideas and ways to implement those ideas in the field of international education.
One topic which we would like to discuss is the formation of a European Consortium for Staff Training with the goal to establish staff mobility in a sustainable manner.
Please have a look at our program and register by 30 September 2012.
The ITW is designed for colleagues from universities working in various departments, and who are dealing with issues occurring by the international dimension of Higher Education (HE).
For members of European universities, participation in the International Week qualifies for ERASMUS staff mobility funding, either for training or teaching. In case your home university doesn't have an ERASMUS-Agreement with DHBW Mannheim for staff exchange, please contact your International Office and the International Office at DHBW Mannheim respectively.
Our schedule comprehends various current issues discussed in international education today and is organized around three themes:
Theme 1: Internationalization in Practice
Here we want to look at innovative approaches and concepts of campus internationalization and new study projects. In addition we would like to discuss the formation of a European Consortium for Staff Training in Higher Education with the goal to establish staff mobility in a sustainable manner.
Theme 2: The combination of theory and practice in Higher Education
How can we assure quality in internships abroad? How can we assess work placements from an academic perspective? These are just a few of the questions we would like to address.
Theme 3: Beyond Europe - China and Hong Kong
Each year we want to give our European participants the possibility to broaden their horizon by looking beyond Europe. This year, we will focus on China and Hong Kong and address the following topics: Current trends in Higher Education, identifying potential partners (accreditation, ranking, location, etc.), different possibilities of collaborations. But we will also look at the different experiences of Chinese and European students.
For each theme, we invited experienced colleagues from Finland, Canada and Hong Kong respectively, to make sure you will get a unique perspective!
Work Meetings
In addition, you will have the possibility to meet colleagues from various departments at DHBW Mannheim, like the library, laboratories, general administration, and public relations.
Teaching
Academic participants can give a guest lecture in our International Program together with our local teaching staff.
Study Abroad Fair
And last but not least, you will have the possibility to present your home university together with our exchange students at our Study Abroad Fair!
Apart from the workshops and work meetings, we are organizing different cultural and social events:
Participants have the possibility to visit the Cathedral in Speyer and the historic center, a world heritage site of UNESCO!
You will also explore the secrets of one of Germany’s best wine producing areas. You can find more information here.
And last but not least, you can also participate at our Night of the Graduates, together with more than 6.000 guests! Our annual graduation ceremony is one of Mannheim’s biggest social events and takes place at Congress Center Rosengarten Mannheim, one of the most popular locations for concerts, stage shows and live acts.
Accommodation costs are covered by participants. The International Office at DHBW Mannheim supports participants in finding a convenient solution.
