Studying at the Duale Hochschule without Money Troubles
A recent study done by the Higher-Education Information Systems (HIS) reports that a third of the potential students in Germany refrain from studying at an institute of higher education because of money issues. In this context, the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) offers a good alternative: during the course of their study, students here earn a regular salary and earn not only an academic degree, but also up to 90% of them receive full-time job offers after their studies are finished.
According to the HIS study done in 2008, 77 percent of students who did not plan to attend college decided not to because of missing financial support. 73 percent felt apprehensive about possible debts arising from student loans, and 77 percent preferred to forego higher education and start earning their own money as early as possible. With a course of study at the DHBW, you can forget about these financial worries and even secure your own income to help support yourself. The financial independence of our students is one of the “Dual Principles” upon which the DHBW is founded. The school operates closely with a vast number of business and social facilities. These “Dual Partners” personally choose the students, pay them a regular salary during their three-year length of studies, and arrange a position for them in the company to gain proper business skills and qualifications.
The students learn the business’s theoretical knowledge in small course groups at one of the eight student academies of the DHBW, wherein theoretical and practical phases alternate every three months. Consequently, the students can apply what they have learned during lectures directly to their job or establishment, and conversely, their experiences in the practical phase can be used to gain deeper insight into the theory of business.
The graduates of the three year long course of study have not only an academic degree at their disposal, but also a year and a half of solid business experience. This dual concept of work and study with the ultimate goal of employability in Germany is unique to the DHBW. And it clearly has its advantages: close to 90 percent of students are placed immediately into a business position after graduating.
